Spring Break in DC and NYC

Hello PRSSA!
Thanks so much to all of you who came out to our recent tour of the South Carolina Aquarium. I was unable to attend due to work conflicts but the turnout was great and I've heard from our president Kesha that ya'll had a nice time. I'm here today to encourage all of you communication majors to participate in an excellent experienced offered to you by the college. The spring break trip to Washington DC and New York City. This year the trip includes a visit to CNN and Ketchum. One of our officers Audrey Horne went to New York on this trip last year and has been raving about the experience ever since. They only have space for about 25 students total so if you are interested HURRY UP AND REGISTER! Don't miss out on this great networking opportunity!

Here is a copy of the fact sheet provided by the college:

Fact Sheet

Washington/New York Spring Break Experience

Department of Communication

College of Charleston

What: A weeklong experience designed to enhance student understanding of the communication profession by offering a series of tours, presentations and networking events in the Washington, DC and New York markets.

Who: The program is open to all College of Charleston Communication Majors. They will be meeting and interacting with CofC Communication Alumni and the Department of Communication Advisory Council. Due to space requirements at the sites we plan to visit, we will be limiting the number of participants to approximately 25 students. A sign-up sheet will be available in the Department of Communication office at 9 College Way. Students will pay a $35 registration fee at the time they sign up.

When: March 5-9, 2012. The first events will begin with site visits in Washington beginning at noon with a reception on Monday evening. The event will continue with additional site visits in Washington on Tuesday. Wednesday will allow time for travel to New York, with a reception that evening. There will be site visits in New York on Thursday and Friday, concluding in the early afternoon of Friday, March 11. A detailed agenda will include tours of several Washington and New York agencies, corporate communication departments and government locations.

Where: Various locations in Washington, DC and midtown Manhattan, New York City.

Why: COMM majors should consider participating if they would like to learn more about the PR, brand management, media, corporate communications and related fields; if they would like to develop their network of contacts; and if they are interested in getting a better feel for the realities of living and working in the greater Washington and New York areas.

How: Students interested in participating will be responsible for making their own travel and accommodation plans. Students may choose to participate in the Washington or New York portions of the trip, but they are encouraged to participate in the full week of activities if at all possible. Hotel rooms in Washington and Manhattan with double occupancy are available as low as $100, or $50 per night per student. Students should evaluate hotel options themselves and make reservations as soon as their travel plans are firm.
